LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has decided to appear voluntarily before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on October 26 at a hearing of a contempt of court case against him.
According to a statement issued by the PTI’s central media wing, this decision was taken in a meeting of senior party leaders at Bani Gala in Islamabad, which was conducted to discuss the party’s plan regarding the contempt of court case against PTI Chief.
PTI also decided to move in Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the arrest warrants issued for Khan by ECP for not appearing in the hearings of the case.
The statement also said that the commission has no authority to issue the arrest warrants.
It also stated that the ECP has failed to perform its basic function of ensuring free and fair elections and added that the commission did not learn anything from the findings of the judicial commission’s report regarding the probe of alleged rigging in elections 2013.
The ECP has already summoned the PTI chief on Oct 26 in a hearing of the contempt of court case against him.
