LAHORE: The failure to amend constitution for delimitation of constituencies before November 10 deadline has compelled federal government to call a meeting of the Council of Common Interest (CCI).
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) maintained its demand of taking the matter back to the CCI before a constitutional amendment can be approved. Furthermore, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM) refused to accept the census results and proposed the amendment.
The delay in constitutional amendment could potentially hold elections as Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) wants the lawmakers to pass it before November 10.
ECP official, in a meeting stated that a minimum of four months to conclude the process of delimitation of the constituencies and this is inevitable for timely scheduling elections.
